12 years

That is how long we have been married as of today. It was a pretty uneventful day - we didn't have much planned except a bike ride. I was pretty happy that J let me sleep in the morning. I do love to sleep in on the weekends which is pretty much impossible with 2 little kids. Although we did get out on a longer ride on Friday, we still wanted to go for a tandem ride on our anniversary. Our tandem was a wedding gift and we spent our honeymoon riding it.

With the sleeping in, we ended up getting a pretty late start and it was pretty hot out, although since it isn't humid here, it wasn't as bad as 100 degrees may sound. We went on our usual route - although not the big climb because my legs were tired from the long ride plus I ran for Relay for Life on Saturday night. Too bad about 3 miles from home, the rear tire blew out. I don't know if we ran over something or what - we just heard a big pop/hiss and had to roll to a stop from about 18 mph. We did get to a patch of shade, but it was hot standing there while J was changing the tire. Then to make things worse - we had the wrong kind of tube to fix our flat. We tried to patch the old one up, but there we just too many holes. So had to resort to plan B and get someone to pick us up. We had been talking during our ride about getting a new tandem - so I guess that our old tandem didn't like that too much. So moral of the story - don't talk about getting a new ride while you are riding your old ride......

Tired legs

Tired legs today - after a super long bike ride - 63ish miles and lots of climbing - you can view the map courtesy of mapmyrun below:

J and I took off work yesterday to go for a long ride. Sunday will be our 12 year anniversary and for the past few years we have been doing a long ride for our wedding anniversary. Our honeymoon was a tandem bike ride from CT back to where we lived in PA, so it seems that celebrating on the bike is appropriate. Unfortunately, we haven't been doing too many long rides lately, so this ride was about 2x the time on the bike as our normal ride and lots of extra climbing. My legs are feeling it today, but it is a good tired.

Now off to do some more work on the house (or maybe just watch the kiddos while J works?). I do owe my blog some house pictures, so maybe I'll try to get some of those up this weekend too.

Guess I am not girly enough.....

Do you see things like this article on "20 cute summer work looks" and think "Really? are they serious?" You know what I mean things like " ...Nothing says “effortlessly chic” like a shirtdress that’s belted to give you shape and ruffled for a touch of femininity. Wear it a few times between washes for a casually sexy “I’m in my boyfriend’s work shirt” look.....") Yeah, definitely not "me". Somehow I don't think that going in a rumpled shirt dress that looks like you just did the walk of shame is a "cute work" look that I would want to try.... Is it because I am a old, because I am a mom, because I am a runner/athlete that I am not very fashionable? Maybe all of the above?

It is true that I don't consider myself to be very "girly" - I would rather wear jeans and t-shirts than dresses and skirts. I pretty much don't accessorize at all (if I wear any other piece of jewelery than my wedding band, then my husband knows that I am trying to "dress up"). If I don't wear jeans to work, then there is about a 95% chance that I am wearing a pair of black pants. I stick to mostly solid colors and nothing too crazy. I see those things in the store, but somehow just don't feel comfortable wearing them. If I happen to buy something trendy, then most likely it will get worn a few times then get forgotten somewhere in my closet and I will return to my usual rotation with the old reliable clothing selections.

It isn't that I don't wear makeup or do my hair, I just don't go to overboard with all that stuff. The most "girly" thing I do is to get a pedicure pretty regularly. I don't remember when I started doing this but I have become so used to painted toenails, that they look so naked and borng without color. And since I can get away with much bolder colors on my toes, I go for things which I would never do for my fingernails (plus the fact a manicure wouldn't last 24 hours). I do enjoy sitting and relaxing in the "spa chair" and getting the foot rub and all that comes with the pedicure. I realize that my feet are still sort of ugly runner's feet and the ladies at the salon always hate that I cut my nails so short, but it is my girly thing that I won't give up.
